The venue is standing room only.

Almost all performances are standing room only. Concertgoers can sit down on either side of the balcony level so long as they do not mind sitting on painted concrete floors.

There is seating available in the VIP section. Depending on the performance VIP seating is available. In many other cases, you must belong to the 9:30 Club's Friends-with-Benefits program.

There are a few seats also available in front of the balcony level bar.

Tip: If you want to ensure you get seats then you should go to the balcony bar when the house doors open. Please make sure there is not a piece of tape in front of a barstool. Those seats are reserved for individuals who pre-arranged seating because of an injury or limitation (the venue has a list of these individuals so do not even try to rip the tape off because you will find yourself out of a seat that way.)

The venue DOES  have any elevators,  The elevator can be found on the far side of the venue towards the bathrooms.  The elevator has access to all levels of the venue.

Floor

The floor at The Atlantis is meant to bounce and have some give.  This prevents noise from traveling to the neighboring 9:30 Club and is completely normal.

Sound

The venue boasts an exceptional sound system and because the venue is so small - the sound is plentiful.  

Note: The evening's performance music is played on outdoor speakers on the rooftop deck.

Lighting

The venue lighting is brand new and state of the art.  However, true to the 1980's-1990's vibe of the venue, the lights are stationary with a few front-flood lights.

There is NO food available at the venue.  Please look at food options below.

Bars

Main Level:  There is a single bar on the main level.  As you walk into the venue you will see the bar immediately to your left.

Balcony Level:  There a single bar on the balcony level.  This bar is at the very back of the venue and is to the right of the stairs.

Rooftop: The rooftop bar is a seasonal bar and is not open during the colder months.   However, there is no better place in Washington, DC, to hang out, share a drink, and watch the 9:30 Club's antenna radiate with color.

Main Floor:  There are two bathrooms (1 Men / 1 Women) on the main floor of the venue.  These are located down the hallway on the far side of the venue, past the coat check.

Vending can be found at the back of the main performance space between the bar and beside the soundbar.

If entering the venue pick the first set of doors to your right to go to the merchanise booth.

DC Institutions

Ben's Chili Bowl: If you are visiting Washington, D.C., and you want to go to a "DC Institution" look no further than Ben's Chili Bowl located five blocks away from the venue 1213 U Street NW. This DC Institution opened in August 1958 and has been satisfying customers ever since with their Half-Smokes and Chili-Dogs ever since. Ben's has kept up with the times including healthier options including a turkey and vegetarian versions of their classics.

Pre-Show

Witlows DC

Less than a block from the 9:30 Club is Witlows DC on the corner of 9th & U Street. Gone are the days of Witlows On Wilson in Arlington, Virginia, but from its' ashes the reincarnation arrives in DC.  Witlows features daily drink and food specials, happy hours, and with three floors of bars and dining, you are sure to find something before a performance there.

 
Note: If you are vegan, this is an excellent food option only feet away from the venue.

Service Bar 

Service Bar is located a very short walk from the venue and is located on 926-928 U St NW and is open until 2AM.  You can find food and drinks at this establishment, and most importantly their late night dining menu is available well beyond when most other kithcens close.

Post-Show

There is no shortage of places to eat and drink after a show at the 9:30 Club.  Simply walk down U Street and stop in at any one of the restaurant and bars that dot the U Street Corridor. Many of the establishments we listed in the pre-show section are also open into the wee hours of the morning.

Entrance

The venue is attached to the 9:30 Club, just a hundred or so feet north of the intersection of  V Street and 9th Street Northwest.  

The Atlantis does not permit queuing for shows in front of the venue (and obstructing nearby apartment building entrances.). If you arrive to the venue before the doors open, you must join a line in front of the 9:30 Club along V Street on the street side of sidewalk.

Box Office

The Atlantis shares a box office with the 9:30 Club.  The  box office is located just to the right of the glass doors.

The Atlantis box office is only open on show nights one hour before doors open.   Tickets for The Atlantis, 9:30 Club, Lincoln Theatre, The Anthem, Merriweather Post Pavilion and other I.M.P. shows can be purchased at any of our venue box offices or online.

Important Tip:   There are no service fees when purchasing tickets at the box office.  

Street parking is available but can be quite limited due to time limitations on parking meterss or Parking Zoning (Zone 1 & 2 - based on the street you park).

There are several parking options available. 

Venue Parking

There is limited (and monitored) venue parking next door to the venue on 9th Street NW. Since parking is limited, we recommend purchasing a parking pass along with your tickets.

Venue parking is located at:  2366 9th Street NW a few blocks north of the club.   (We shed a tear for the old parking lot just feet from the venue. Yet another apartment building comes to the neighborhood). 

Parking is available online in advance for $20, and at the lot on the night of the show for $25, pending availability. 

If purchasing online, please make sure you select the date that corresponds to the show you are attending!

Note: On site parking is credit only, no cash. If you purchased your parking pass online, your name will be at the gate with the parking attendant.

Note: The parking lot does not open to the public until one hour before venue doors.

Public Parking

Street parking is available around The Atalantis but it is limited.

Parking is available on 8th Street NW in the Atlantic Plumbing Building (2112 8th St NW, Washington, DC 20001).  as well as on the corner of 8th & V Street NW as well as a few other parking lots in the area.  )We recommend that you

The following section details all the essential information of the music space inside the venue.  

 It is important to note that Water Street is directly underneath The Whitehurst Freeway.

Gypsy Sally's has ample seating in the venue and also a standing room only area in front of the stage.

There are two levels of seating, one in the central area and one up a small set of stairs.

Seating has full-service food and drink service.

Tip: Seating is available on a first-come-first-serve basis. Depending on the popularity of the performance you may wish to get to the venue earlier to get seats.

Yes. We have several seats that will accommodate a wheel chair or a visitor using some form of assistance: walker, cane, etc. Please contact us in advance so we can reserve the most easily accessible table for you.

As our main front door is only accessible via stairs, we ask that our wheelchair patrons use our rear entrance (which is ramped and accessible by a car for drop off). We also have three restrooms that are handicapped accessible.  Our best recommendation is for anyone who has mobility concerns to call our office at 202.333-7700 or email at info@gypsysallys.com, so that we can ensure that aisles are kept as clear as possible.  Advance notice is always recommended – the earlier the better so we can assure our guests a wonderful experience at Gypsy Sally’s.

Gypsy Sally's has a 300 square foot stage located in the corner of the venue right beside the main bar.

During the Summer of 2018, the lighting system was completely overhauled and modernized. The new lighting system adds significant "pop" and a 4th-Dimension to the music experience. If you have not been to Gypsy Sally's recently, the lighting system is worth revisiting the venue!

Gypsy Sally's has a full dinner & snack menu available at each performance.

Note: The food menu is seasonal and items do rotate in and out of the menu.

Gypsy Sally's has two bars, one located at each side of the venue.

• The primary bar next to the stage is always open. 
• The secondary bar is only open during larger performances.

The beer selection at Gypsy Sally's is quite large and diverse featuring local, regional, and national beers both in cans and on draught.  On occasion  there are "tap takeovers" from various breweries.

The third bar in the venue is located in The Vinyl Lounge and is always open is the one. (This bar is usually quieter with shorter lines.)

Note: Gypsy Sally's and Vinyl Lounge bar systems are not on interconnected, so credit card tabs do not transfer between the two locations. The two bars located within Gypsy Sally's are interconnected and you can feel free to go between each.

The mens room is located behind the ticket booth while the womens room is located at the rear of the Coat Check / Vending Room.

The Vinyl Lounge has a single stall restroom which is ADA compliant.

Tip: On particularly crowded nights it may be challenging to navigate through the venue to the restrooms on the opposite side of the venue. At times like this, the Vinyl Lounge restroom may be the easier choice.

Artist vending is found inside the Coat Check room.

It is also worth nothing that some charitable organizations like Love-Hope-Strength and Rock-The-Vote set up booths in the Vinyl Lounge.

Post-Show

Going out for a post-show bite to eat or drink  really depends on the night of the performance. On Friday and Saturday nights Georgetown's establishments go until the Wee hours. 

We recommend exploring M Street and Wisconsin Avenue. 

There are also plenty of options available at The Washington Harbour along the waterfront.

Georgetown Parking can be difficult. There are many street and parking lot options available.

Public Parking

Metered street parking is available on K Street (Water Street) or the surrounding area. If you are unable to locate a public parking space, there are multiple parking lots on K Street.  

Public Parking meters fees end at 10 PM so you can pay the maximum until 10 PM.

Gypsy Sally's recommends Constitution Parking located at 3217 K Street NW.

Metro:

​The closest Metro Station is the Orange / Silver / Blue Line station Foggy Bottom - GMU

This is approximately a 1.1 - 1.25 mile / 25 minute walk from the venue.

The easiest way to walk from the Metro to the venue is to walk straight down K Street down to Whitehurst Freeway or down Pennsylvania Avenue and make left down Wisconsin to get to Water street.

Georgetown and surrounding area on are perfect for biking with bike racks along Water Street. Just keep in mind that if you are heading North, there is a steep hill to get to M Street on Wisconsin (we recommend walking your bike up 34th street that has bike walking ramps to make getting to M street much easier.

For most concerts, especially Phish concerts, the venue is General Admission.  There are two levels to the venue, the floor and the seated stands. Although all are General Admission, the floor is standing room only, while the stadium has seats available.

If you walk up the flight of stairs to the left or right of the main entrance it will take you to the seated stands on the mezanine level.

If you continue past the stairs leading upstairs  you will find yourself at the GA floor seating.

The Coliseum is an ADA compliant facility and provides a full range of accommodations for visitors.

Parking is free and plentiful at the Coliseum.  If you have not been to the venue in a while, there has been a lot of construction and the parking lots have changed. Your old "favorite parking space" may now be occupied by the Convention Center. That being said, parking is plentiful.

The Hampton Coliseum is a flexible, mutli-purpose venue. As a result, the stage lighting and sound is based upon what the band provides to the venue.

That being said, when a top-level nationwide music act comes through, the venue truly shines.

Ground Level:

​On the bottom level of the venue to each side is a "Food & Drink Court" 

Food is plentiful on the upper level. On opposite corners of the venue you will find a small collection of food options clustered together.

Mezzanine Level:

NOTE: During full capacity events please expect long lines.

There are places to purchase drinks all around the venue. Depending on how full the venue is, you can expect proportionally as long lines.

Ground Level:

There is a giant "Food & Drink Court" on the bottom level of the venue on each side whcih you can find a wide array of drink choices

Mezzanine Level:

Drinks can be found on each side of the mezzanine level with the vast majority of the drink stations are in the center of the venue underneath concrete stairs leading up to the balcony seating

NOTE: During full capacity events please expect long lines.

Preface: The restrooms have not been updated since the building was built. As a result many restrooms are limited to 5-7 stalls in the women's restrooms and 5-7 urinals + 3-4 stalls in the men's restrooms.  If an event is at full capacity, expect extremely long lines and strategically plan your bathroom breaks.

Ground Level:

There is a men's and women's restroom on each side of the venue in the "Food & Drink Court". Lines can be "challenging" and long at these restrooms. We recommend finding a position to stand near one of the four ground level general admission exits for easy access to the restrooms.

​Mezzanine Level:

There are TWO restrooms for men and women on each side of the venue.

Official vending areas have changed throuhgout the years and are based upon the performer. Posters are usually found at the vending station when you first enter the main entrance.  

Primary vending / merchandise tables can be found on each side of the ground floor next to the food & drink court.

The entire perimeter of the venue is surrounded by an outdoor smoking area. However there are only two locations that attendees may enter and exit thorugh. The doors are locked from the inside so you will be required to knock and have someone let you back in.

Pre-Show

There are plenty of options before a performance at Hampton Colliseum. It just depneds on what you want to do.

• For Phish fans, the Shakedown Street (aka: Food & Venros) is exceptional and has it's own dedicated parking lot.
• If you want to spend time before the show and have a designated driver or are drinking non-alcoholic beverages  we reccomdned hanging out in Waterfront Hampton.  There are great food and drink options to share amongst friends and fellow concertgoers.  (Please refer to the 'Things To Do' Section below.)
• If you want to stay within walking distance of the venue, the Nearby Hooters (see below) or Waffle House are good options.

Post-Show

This all depends on the act you see at the Hampton Coliseum there are a variety of options available to you for your post venue experience.

For Phish Phans, look no further than the parking lot for a vibrant and extensive "Shakedown Street" post-concert food experience. We do want to warn you that the police tend to clear out and shut down the post concert festivities in an aggressive and almost riot squad formation. When the police tell you that you have to clear the area, you clear the area.

We also recommend the Embassy Suites just north of the venue. With a large atrium and a bar, this hotel is great for hosting post-event get-togethers.

We recommend using a GPS navigation unit or phone with maps on it. In particular, the highways from Richmond to Hampton are two-lanes and prone to serious delays when traffic or an accident occurs.  It is best to have a computer which tells you about delays and alternate routes.

The Hampton Coliseum is right off of US-64 which is the main thoroughfare between Richmond VA and Norfolk, VA.

For reference the best exits to use for Hampton Coliseum are:

• Exit 263     -  US-258 / Mercury Blvd
• Exit 265A  - LaSalle Avenue and arrive via VA-134 North Armistead Avenue

While DC Music Review knows there is public transportation within Hampton, we are actually talking about Public Transportation TO Hampton, VA and not the venue itself.

• Richmond, VA to Hampton, VA
• Washington DC to Hampton, VA  

Amtrak does not service Hampton, VA. The closest stop to Hampton is their Newport News Station. 

The first thing you may think of when planning a trip to the Hampton Coliseum is "I need a Hotel! Where do I stay?"

Well there is good news and bad news.

Good News:

• There is no shortage of hotels within walking distance of Coliseum. Both Coliseum Drive and Mercury Drive are dotted with Hotels eager to host your visit.

Bad News:

• The bad news, many of these hotels get completely sold out based on rumors alone (Phish Phans sometimes book 8 months in advance just based on a rumor alone.

• However, if you don't mind driving 10-20 minutes there are dozens of hotels in neighboring Newport News and Norfolk.​

Available Chains

Right next to the venue there are several hotels and motels. These tend to fill up VERY quickly. 

If you can book this hotel in advance, The Embassy Suites at 1700 Coliseum Drive is within easy walking distance to the venue and is the most modern and full service hotels on Coliseum Drive.

The following list in alphabetical order available at the time we wrote this article.. We will let you decide what type of hotel you prefer staying in.

If you have, then you might have heard of the Dick's Sporting Goods Park Park, or just "Dick's." If you are a fan of Phish, then there has been no doubt that you have heard people mention "Dick's." Built in 2007 this soccer stadium also plays host to some memorable events and concerts. Phish first started playing at this venue in 2011 and has become a regular summer tour closer for the band.

Parking is $15 for each night and paid in cash when you enter the complex.  

For taxi rates, please see hotel options below for some approximate taxi rates.

Dropping Off:

If you are using a conventional taxi, you should try to get dropped off on East 56th Avenue and walk into the venue. The lines are long and slow getting into the complex and waiting to get in will cost you significantly more.

Pick Up:

All Taxi services pick up from outside Gate H.  The venue has partnered with Lyft.

Lyft: You MUST be picked up from the designated spot outside of Gate H.  In fact, the Lyft program will not allow you to be picked up anywhere besides Gate H. We found that the Lyft rates were double what other taxi services were from Dick's.

Uber & Other Services (THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT TO REMEMBER POST CONCERT) You can be picked up anywhere.  We found it was easiest to be picked up on Valentia Street between Trenton Street and East 59th Place.  In particular, it was easy to drop a pin next to where the road was blocked and then a taxi would simply perform a U-Turn to leave the venue.  It worked for us and so many others, it will work for you too!

Best Entrance

If you want to come into the venue after exploring "Shakedown" / The Lot scene, we recommend coming in through gates F & G.  In particular, Gate G seems to be the fastest to enter through personal experience.

We have rarely ever witnessed a "Shakedown Street" as large, diverse and energetic as the one you will find at Dick's. You will see many familiar vendor faces and will not run out of choices between food, drinks, and hard goods (such as t-shirts, posters, pins). Seriously, give yourself time to check out the lot scene at Dick's both before and after the show.

It is wild beyond belief. This lot scene, in particular, has not only the expected vendors but also several tents set up with live bands. In 2017 none other than Tom Marshall was found sitting in and singing with a local band.

The parking lot opens at 3:00PM

We do not think we have been to a venue with as incredible of a tailgate as the one that occurs each day at Dick's Sporting Goods Park.  People definitely bring their A-Game.  You can expect people to have tables filled with delicious food and drinks.  You should expect to see many barbecue pits going and the smell of delicious grilled food amongst other things wafting through the air.  In addition to nearby supermarkets, you may want to go to Stanley's Marketplace or Denver Central Market, amongst other places, to pick up delicious food for your tailgate. 

One anecdote, on the last night of the 2017 Phish run, one tailgater was yelling "we got fresh bratwurst for sale here!"  When people asked how much it was to which the grill master would respond with a wry smile "The bratwursts are free, I only charge you for your time.  You just have to be patient and wait for these to be finished grilling!"

There is camping at Dick's Sporting Goods Park where you can be minutes away by foot from the venue. This camping is relatively inexpensive, clean, with showers, water, ATM's, and has their own general store. Most importantly, the venue is very secure (when you purchase camping, you will receive a camping wristband. There is a security checkpoint and only those with Camping wristbands are permitted in the camping area).

Both RV and car camping is available at Dick's Sporting Goods Park. In 2017, camping costs $90 per person for the three-day event. At an additional cost, RV's were required to have a $60 parking pass, while those coming in with cars parked their car separately from their campground in Section R.

We recommend the following hotels for people attending concerts at this venue. We recommend them from personal experience and the experience of trusted friends. In some hotels, you will even find a delivered to your door in the morning instead of a local or national newspaper. (Bet you never thought that was even a possibility did you?)

The music venue has some permanent benches available on a first come first serve basis.

On occasion for more intimate and serene music, tables and chairs are set out.

Tip:   For permanent benches please get there early as these are on a first come, first serve basis.

There is no elevator to the venue downstairs.  However the venue provides the following note in their FAQ page.

if you need assistance getting down to the venue please email us at least a week ahead of time at info@songbyrddc.com so we can help make arrangements for you. Please not that we do not have seating at the front of the stage either as almost all shows are standing room only.  

The venue has a small and quaint stage.  The lighting is modest and adequate and proportional for the size of the stage. If you happen to be taking photographs, you may experience a purple tinge on your photos due to the purple stage lights hanging above.

Note:  There is a pole about 5 feet away from the stage and directly in the center of the stage. We recommend standing to the left or right of the center of the stage and not directly in the center of the venue for optimal viewing.

There is no food served inside the music venue. If you would like to eat at the venue before the show you can do so at their coffee house or full service restaurant on the ground level.

There is a a single bar a located at the rear of the venue space. There is a bigger and more elaborate bar on the ground level of the venue.

A separate men's and women's bathroom can be found at the back of the performance space.  

They are both located down the hallway opposite of the venue bar.

Merchansise sold by the artists can be found along a merch table towards the back of the performance space.

Pre-Show

You can find wonderful food choices and alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks at the Coffee House, Bar, and Restaurant on the ground level of the venue.

There are no shortages of places to eat before the show in Adams Morgan.  Of course one of our favorite pre-show favorites is Amsterdam Falafel.

Another option before the show is to browse and purchase Songbyrd's extensive record selection.

Post-Show

Once again, you will find no shortage of places to eat and drink after the performance, including the restaurant and bar on the ground floor of the venue. It is worth noting that, based on which night of the week it is, the ground floor amenities may be quite full after a performance.

If you are looking to absorb some post-show alcohol, we recommend once again Amsterdam Falafel and Jumbo Slice.

To get to the actual performance space, go to the "Bar Side" of the ground-floor space and look for the stairs leading down.
